Spring is springing
It’s been a busy time around these parts for the last few months. Co-ordinating the citywide Young at Art competition and exhibition has gobbled up a lot of time. There’s been some paint being put to canvas (or masonite), but not as much as I’d like. There are several pieces I poke at regularly after the troops have hit the hay, but to get some time in the day time would be nice — it’s just getting a day off that has been tough.
So, as far as what’s going on around my little neck of the art woods goes, here’s a little look:
The Gloucester Gallery has sculptures and paintings by Mathieu Dubé. (Every show makes this gallery space look like a new place — I love the way the gallery looks with Mathieu’s pieces. A great minimalism-kinda-thing goin’ on). 255 Centrum Blvd, main floor, Orléans.
This year’s East Ottawa Young at Art exhibition opened at the Cumberland Gallery last night (April 19). This annual event is an opportunity for youth artists between 13 and 19 years of age to strut their stuff in public. Prizes are selected by a jury for specific categories. Works are also awarded by individual, business, and group donors. Local City councillors get in on the act as well, recognizing the work of youth artists in the community. The show runs from April 19 to May 22.
The Central Ottawa segment of the exhibition is being held at the Foyer Gallery in the Nepean Sportsplex April 27 to May 20, and the West Ottawa exhibition is at the Kanata Civic Art Gallery April 25 to May 15.
The Electric Gallery Co-op has two shows opening tonight (April 20):Jeremiah Degrandpre: Big and Smalls and Shafik Al Hamdani: Colour into Light.
These shows run from April 20 to May 4.
